this week, i encountered a snake who seemed to hope i wouldn’t notice. this sighting served as a timely reminder to stay aware of my surroundings and the wildlife in this space. i’ve decided it’s a good idea to invest in a field guide to help me identify our neighbors and understand how to better support them.

in addition to the snake, i spotted my first spring squirrel climbing down a tree. seeing these lively animals return as the weather warms up is always a joy. i’ve also noticed a significant number of spider webs along the perimeter of the land. i’m curious about this increase in spider activity—could it indicate a healthy ecosystem or something else?

wild blackberries are thriving in the area, with their vines spreading across the landscape. i’m looking forward to enjoying their sweet fruit as summer approaches.

on the gardening front, i planted several trees, herbs, and flowers this week, aiming to create a diverse and vibrant garden. about two weeks ago, i scattered kale seeds in a few spots to see what would happen, and this morning, i was excited to observe some germination. witnessing the first signs of life in the garden is always rewarding.

additionally, i received an order of seeds from southern seed exposure exchange, filled with various warm-weather vegetables and fruits. i can’t wait to plant them and see how they grow throughout the season.

this week has been a wonderful mix of nature observations and gardening activities. i’m eager to see how everything unfolds as spring progresses!
