Today, we took an exciting step towards enhancing our farm’s landscape by renting an excavator to create contour swales for planting trees. Contour swales are shallow, broad channels that follow the natural contours of the land, designed to capture and manage water runoff effectively. By strategically shaping the land, we aim to improve water retention, reduce erosion, and create ideal conditions for our new trees to thrive. The process of using the excavator was both efficient and eye-opening, allowing us to see how thoughtful land management can transform our space. We’re looking forward to planting our trees in these newly formed swales, knowing that we’re setting the stage for a healthier, more sustainable environment on our farm.
